Casablanca: City Council approves urban development projects

At an extraordinary session held on Tuesday June 10, the Council of the Casablanca municipality approved a number of agreements and expropriation projects aimed at reinforcing the city’s urban and social development.

One of the session’s flagship projects concerns the development of a 3-kilometer stretch of the Oued Bouskoura riverbank. This partnership between the Casablanca Prefectural Council, the Regional Council, the Municipal Council, the Bouregreg and Chaouia River Basin Agency (ABHBC), the Casa-Baia company, and the  Casa-Settat Regional Multiservice Corporation (SRM) will mobilize a budget of around 55 million Dirhams (US 5.5 million). The project aims to enhance the value of this natural area, while improving the city’s environment and attractiveness. The Board also unanimously approved a partnership agreement with the National Union of Women of Morocco (Union Nationale des Femmes du Maroc) and the Casablanca Prefectural Council. This project involves the creation of a center dedicated to the economic and social empowerment of women and girls in the city, thus reinforcing initiatives in favor of inclusion and gender equality.

Several expropriation decisions were adopted to enable the realization of structuring projects. By a majority vote, the Board approved the expropriation of a 551 square meter plot of land, located at the intersection of Boulevards Zerktouni and Anfa (Sidi Belyout district), belonging to the Tower Seven Art company, to be used for a local public facility.

In the Anfa district, plots belonging to the Malibu real estate company will be expropriated for the creation of development roads (referenced AN23, AN24, AN25 and AN26), a 6-hectare public square and an underground parking lot. These projects are designed to ease traffic congestion, particularly in the Aïn Diab beachfront area, while providing new public spaces for local residents.

“The development of the banks of the Bouskoura Wadi and the projects in the Anfa district, including the Aïn Diab beachfront, demonstrate our commitment to sustainable urban development and a better quality of life for the people of Casablanca” , said Houcine Nasrallah, Vice-President of the Municipal Council. These decisions mark a key step in the transformation of Casablanca into a modern, inclusive and environmentally-friendly metropolis. The projects approved should not only improve the city’s infrastructure, but also enhance its economic and tourist appeal.
