Casablanca Mohammed V Airport: Work starts on new terminal

Casablanca’s Mohammed V airport, Morocco’s leading airport hub, takes a major step forward with the official start of earthworks for the future terminal. Earthworks have officially begun, marking the kick-off of a major project that will position Casablanca as a major air hub by 2030.

Part of the national “ Airports 2030 ” strategy of the National Airports Authority (Office National des Aéroports, ONDA), the new terminal represents an investment of 15 billion dirhams (USD 1.7 billion). Designed to handle an additional 20 million passengers a year, it will bring the airport’s total capacity to 35 million. This development is part of an ambitious vision to strengthen Morocco’s connectivity with Europe, Africa and the Americas, while supporting Royal Air Maroc’s growth.

Awarded to the Moroccan company STAM following a public tender, the earthworks will take 8 months to complete. This preparatory phase is crucial for laying the foundations of the future terminal, scheduled to open in 2029. The project, designed by the international consortium Ala Concept, RSHP Architects and Egis Bâtiments International, is inspired by the standards of the world’s major terminals, such as those in London, Madrid, and Geneva.

The future Mohammed V airport terminal will embody innovation and sustainability. It will offer a fluid, digitalized passenger experience, optimized energy performance and enhanced climate resilience. An integrated TGV station will link the airport to Rabat in 30 minutes and to Marrakech in less than an hour, reinforcing Casablanca’s attractiveness as an intercontinental hub.

To guarantee the quality of the project, ONDA launched a Call for Expressions of Interest, which closed in May 2025, mobilizing 27 Moroccan and international groups. The tender process for the construction of the terminal will start in July 2025, with an award expected by the end of the year. This major project is part of a commitment to excellence, aimed at making the airport a model of modern infrastructure.

With this project, Casablanca is preparing to shine on the international stage, notably for the 2030 World Cup. The new terminal will reinforce Morocco’s strategic role as a gateway to Africa and a crossroads for global economic and tourism flows.
