Health: How to improve the healthcare offering

“This is the second time that the question time session in Parliament on public policy has tackled the issue of health. There will be a third time, because the issue is so important, and it will be a question of making a midterm assessment of where we are, what is working and what is not” . This was the gist of the Head of Government’s reaction to the comments made by one parliamentary group after another in the House of Representatives on Monday, November 27. Without saying it openly, it is a point scored by minister Khalid Ait Taleb, who has managed to get the reform of his sector back on track. For the Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, it is a question of working with the Minister of Health and Social Protection to increase the attractiveness of hospitals. Substantial resources are being invested to improve public provision. Thereafter, competition between the public and private sectors will play to the full. The essential thing is to give citizens the opportunity to choose which system to opt for. At the same time, the Ministry of Health has embarked on a proactive policy to digitalize the healthcare sector. The aim is to improve care pathways and optimize the use of available resources in order to guarantee the efficiency of interventions and reduce their costs. In practice, the goal is to develop and implement an integrated hospital information system for public hospitals in all regions of Morocco. The development of platforms linking IT systems and public hospitals is ongoing. The coming year will focus on implementing the components of this project, through the rollout of the integrated hospital information system in all regions. This system will be extended to primary healthcare facilities in all regions, with the implementation of the shared medical record

In this architecture, citizens will be obliged to go through their family doctor. The family doctor will be an essential link in the chain of care, reducing pressure on emergency services and directing patients to a specialist if necessary. On this occasion, the Head of Government gave a timetable for the implementation of this profession, which will be effective in the field as early as next year.
