L’Economiste-Sunergia survey ChatGPT: Little known but feared

The advent of ChatGPT does not leave anyone indifferent. This technological advance fascinates as much as it scares. Opinions diverge, as emerges from the latest L’Economiste-Sunergia survey on this subject.
■ Youth are better informed
While this technology is starting to be mastered on the international scene, in Morocco, however, things are still in their infancy. According to the latest L’Economiste-Sunergia survey, only 16% of Moroccans have heard of ChatGPT. The remaining 84% are unaware of this innovation. The results are almost identical for men and women (18% and 14% of respondents aware of this technology). It is in terms of age distribution that the differences are most pronounced. Naturally, young people are the most informed about technological advances. 32% of 18-24-year-olds said they were aware of the existence of this chatbot. This rate drops to 16% among 25- to 44-year-olds. Among seniors aged 65 or more, only 2% are aware of this tool. Situations are more different between urban and rural areas. 21% of city dwellers have heard of this artificial intelligence tool, compared with just 6% of rural dwellers. By CSP (socio-professional category), categories A and B include the largest number of people having heard of ChatGPT, with 25%, versus 17% for Cs and 10% for Ds and Es.
■ Work, learn, and have fun
In this survey, people who have already heard of this software have also been asked if they have had the opportunity to use it. 39% responded positively. There, too, there are no big differences between genders, with respectively 38% and 39%. However, per age groups, it is especially young people who use this technology the most. This is the case of 51% of 25-34-year-olds, and 46% of 18-24-year-olds. These age brackets are followed by the 35-44 years (31%) and the 45-54-year-olds (25%). The other age categories have declared to never have used ChatGPT. In terms of regions, it is above all the populations of the center of the country that seem to take advantage of this tool the most. There are 58% of them saying that they have recourse to ChatGPT, versus 34% in the south of the country and 12% in the Northeast of the country. Curiously, the results are quite close in urban and rural areas, with 38% and 40% respectively. Per socioprofessional category, it is categories A and B that use this robot the most, with 59%, followed by D and E, with 41%. Regarding the uses of this technology, the answers were diverse. Almost half of the respondents claimed to have recourse to ChatGPT for work purposes (45%), other respondents declared to use ChatGPT for their personal education and to obtain information (37%), while 27% use ChatGPT for educational reasons (27%).
