Renault-Ford: Sourcing opportunities for Morocco

Ford will have cars built by Renault! A partnership agreement has been signed between the two French and US groups to develop electric passenger vehicles on Renault’s Ampere platform. Furthermore, the two companies are also exploring opportunities for collaboration in the joint production of commercial vehicles in Europe. The goal is to manufacture and develop certain light commercial vehicles (LCVs) under the Renault and Ford brands.
The aim of this partnership is to « expand the electric vehicle offering and, above all, significantly strengthen the competitiveness of both companies in a rapidly changing European automotive landscape .» Initially, the French manufacturer will produce vehicles for Ford at a plant in northern France. « These vehicles mark the first step in an ambitious new product offensive by Ford in Europe. The first of the two planned vehicles will be available in dealerships in early 2028 ,» announced the Renault Group. In addition to their collaboration on electric vehicles, the two manufacturers have also signed a letter of intent (LOI) concerning « cooperation in the field of light commercial vehicles (LCVs) in Europe.»
This will allow for exploring the possibility of developing and manufacturing certain Renault and Ford LCVs . According to the head of the Renault Group, François Provost: « The Renault Group is proud to announce a new strategic cooperation with Ford, an iconic automaker. This partnership demonstrates the strength of our expertise in partnerships and our competitiveness in Europe. In the long term, combining our strengths with Ford will make us more innovative and responsive in a rapidly changing European automotive market.
According to experts, there is strong symbolism in this partnership: “An American manufacturer entrusting its production to a French manufacturer. This is very rare and is a true recognition of French industrial expertise.” According to another analyst, “it is no coincidence that Ford has chosen Renault : This is recognition of “the quality and productivity” of the French automotive industry. “He adds, saying: “Renault is now in the top five worldwide in terms of production costs.” There are also logistical considerations, as by producing its vehicles in Europe, “Ford will be able to reduce its transportation costs by 30%.” Another significant advantage is that Renault is more than 15 years ahead in the field of compact electric platforms.
