Tourism: Beyond 20 million visitors

Once again, the kingdom has seen a 14% increase in arrivals at border crossings in 2025. This was announced by the Minister of Tourism, Handicrafts, and Social and Solidarity Economy, Fatim-Zahra Ammor, a week after the end of the year. With 19.8 million tourist arrivals, Morocco is approaching the 20 million tourist threshold for the first time. This is also a strong performance for tourism revenues, which exceeded 124 billion dirhams (USD 13.5 billion) in foreign currency at the end of November 2025, an increase of 19% compared to 2024. For the minister, this increase reflects the concrete results of the 2023-2026 tourism roadmap launched by the Government and marks a new stage in the development of the tourism sector.
It should be noted that 2024 was already a record year, with Morocco posting growth of 14% compared to 2023, with 7.5 million more visitors. Although a detailed analysis of arrivals by country of origin is not yet available, the performance reveals a positive trend throughout the year. Above all, it opens a new chapter in attracting more tourists, said Abdellatif Kabbaj, president of the Kenzi group, provided that the pace of air travel is maintained. In any case, the tourism sector confirms its status as a national economic pillar, with tourism activity accounting for 7% of GDP. This is a significant contribution that exceeds many other economic sectors. In figures, the ministry in charge is targeting 26 million by 2030 with a roadmap focused on strengthening air links, restructuring tourist accommodation capacity, diversifying the tourist offer, improving the quality of services, and stimulating investment in all regions for more efficient and sustainable tourism, with positive local benefits, said minister Fatim-Zahra Ammor. This is what national tourism operators want, with a strong emphasis on air travel.
